Boreas ♀ (Waterhouse)

John William Waterhouse is one of the most famous artists of the Romantic period and a representative of the Pre-Raphaelite and realistic academy art. His works are characterized by the transfiguration of past epochs, especially the Middle Ages. Thematically, he dealt with antiquity and history in general, but also myths and legends - especially from the British Isles, with the Arthussage taking a special meaning among his works. This work bears the title "Boreas" after the Greek god for the north wind, which in this image figuratively puffs the clothing of the portrayed woman in front of the spring background.
