John William Waterhouse is one of the most famous artists of the Romantic period and a representative of the Pre-Raphaelite and realistic academy art. His works are characterized by the transfiguration of past epochs, especially the Middle Ages. Thematically, he dealt with antiquity and history in general, but also myths and legends - especially from the British Isles, with the Arthussage taking a special meaning among his works.
