The work of Carlos Schwabe (* 1966 in Hamburg as Emile Martin Charles Schwabe, † 1926 in Avon (FR)) moved in the field of symbolism and it is commonly considered one of the precursors of Art Nouveau. He became known for his mystical and gloomy-romantic paintings.
In the year 1907 he created the work "La Vague" or "The wave", No other of his works puts the viewer in a similar horror.
The distorted, almost manic-guileful faces of the veiled figureswhose shawls go over into waves, superhumanly staring at the viewer. Only the creative intention of the artist remains free for interpretation by anyone.
If the work is about dreams, the subconscious or insanity - all this seems conceivable.
