What could provide more abundant material for art than one? tragic love story !?
Biblis is a sad figure of Greek mythology. According to legend, she was immortal in her brother Kaunos in love, but surely aware of the sin of her desire. But all quarrels did not stop her from wanting to get closer to him.
What fate Biblis The great poets of antiquity disagree about that. Either she went to the mountains to die to death and was taken in by compassionate nymphs, or she hanged herself on a tree, whereupon her tears flowed together at the foot of the tree to a spring.
In Ovid's Metamorphoses she admits her brother's shameful love, whereupon he flees from the country. The sister haunts him until she finally collapses with exhaustion and the nymphs, unable to rearrange her, created a water vein beneath her and she burst into tears and eventually became a spring.
This picture was created by William A. Bouguereau (1825-1905), a French painter and commonly referred to as Master of Academic Classicism and Classic Realism.
