The portrait of the bishop GB Agucchi was made by his friend and painter Domenico Zampieri painted. Because of this friendship, an intimate look into the life of a bishop is possible.
At work, reading attentively, only briefly looking up at the viewer, allows a brief moment of intimacy, the eyes meet.
The artist himself was closely linked to the clergy - probably also because his circle of friends was from this group. That's how he painted that too Cardinal Girolamo Agucchi, the older brother of his friend Giovanni.
Domenico himself, who also goes by the stage name »Domenichino " worked, lived for a few years in the Agucchis' household and thus came into contact with other high-ranking personalities of the Church.
Of course, he also painted a few pictures with a religious background, many portraits and various frescoes, commissioned by the church and the clergy.
His more well-known works are pervaded by historical and mythological motifs and figures, but mainly he painted landscapes in which he differs from Annibale Carracci was inspired.
Further works with mythological motifs and reference to nature are »Hunt of Diana«, "The Sacrifice of Isaac" or "Virgin with the unicorn".
Zampieri's works are now exhibited in art museums around the world.
