Restless and swift they race over trunks, over meadows and through treetops. They collect, they hoard and are constantly on guard: Squirrel.
“Squirrels, whose original name was actually: Those who shade themselves with their tails”, and whose name only became a squirrel through a misunderstanding, are lovable little companions that you can meet everywhere.
The squirrel has left its mark on many cultures. There are in Norse mythology Ratatosk, It lives in the world tree Yggdrasil and is dedicated to the thunder god Thor. It can jump back and forth between the worlds.
It has to be, because it is Messenger for the giant, dragon-like snake that gnaws at the roots of the World Tree and Nidhoggr is called and the nameless eagle, who watches in his crown.
